Collaborative Letterpress Printmaking
Grades 3-12
Learn about the history of the printing press at Book Arts’ studio, housing antique letterpress type & presses! Participants will work together to print a collaborative design and go home with a poster hand-printed on a press from the 1930s. Group design will consist of a quote/saying of up to 10 words (determined by your group), with the possibility to add a few images from our collection. Finished posters will be approx. 8" x 10" – 11" x 14".

Letterpress Printing & Binding Books by Hand
Grades 6-12
Learn about the history of the book and letterpress printmaking at Book Arts' studio! The Book Arts' studio is home to antique bookbinding equipment, letterpress type & presses. Participants will work together to print a collaborative design as a book cover, hand-printed on a press from the 1930s. Group design will consist of a quote/saying of up to 10 words (determined by your group), with the possibility to add a few images from our collection. Finished book covers will be hand-bound into a journal of lined pages for use in the classroom or as a sketchbook.

Printmaking: Screen-Print Posters & Apparel
Grades 3-12
Participants will learn about the screen print process from stencil making to squeegee-holdin’–including the science behind creating a screen image. Together, we’ll work with specialty artist tools & inks to transform a pre-determined design into a custom hand-printed poster or fabric item. Each participant will go home with a print; pulled with their own hands. For field trips to Book Arts, your visit includes a tour of the art galleries, the artist gift shop, and the workshop space. In addition, students will tour the letterpress and screenprint studios, which houses antique bookbinding equipment, letterpress type & presses. This class is also available as an in-school activity with our mobile screen printing press.
