JOSH RICE is a multidisciplinary theatre and teaching artist specializing in puppetry and improvisation. He the co-founder and Producing Artistic Director of Shake on the Lake, a not-for-profit professional theatre based in Perry, NY that specializes in fast, physical, and accessible adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, incorporating simple performer-driven spectacle, puppetry, live music, improvisation, and audience interaction. Favorite roles include Richard in Richard III; Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet; Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; and Scrooge in the 2-actor, 1-puppeteer adaptation of A Christmas Carol. He is also the founder and Producing Artistic Director of the New York State Puppet Festival, an international festival of contemporary and traditional puppetry based in Perry, NY. He is the host of The Puppet Pod!, a podcast about the niche world of contemporary puppetry for adults.
