Poetry Pros is an ensemble of poets who cover a range of genres beneath the umbrella of Spoken Word.
Meditation poet Dehejia Maat combines words that center and heal with body movement, poses, crystal bowls that ground and calm the audience. Dehejia is an accomplished classroom teacher at the Lowell School in Washington, DC.
Scotty Paynter is also a member of the Poetry Pros. His nimble fingers and soothing baritone voice are reminiscent of a gentler time in the nation's history. Scotty teaches songwriting to learners of all ages and is the lead vocalist in Jah Works, a popular reggae band born in Baltimore, MD.
Gowri Koneswaran is an activist and poet of protest. She is an advocate of LGBTQ rights and teaches children to be proud of who they are and the roots from which they have been sprung. She is an attorney in the Washington, DC area and a teaching artist.
Slam Poet, Gayle Danley, is a former National and International Poetry Slam Champion. For several years she was a popular member of Young Audiences' of Western New York's roster of teaching artists. She performed her emotional, dynamic slam poetry in schools, residential facilities for youth and afterschool programs. She is also a former Young Audiences National Artist of the Year.
