History of the Guitar add to wish list
A comprehensive and engaging guitar overview that uses music to teach geography, science and world culture.
Through guitar performance and stories, Stuart takes students on a thrilling and playful journey through the history of this very popular instrument. Stuart performs a wide variety of musical styles on classical, steel string, ukulele and electric guitars - from Bach to Rock!
Stuart's program also includes selections from far reaching influences like the Japanese Koto and the Australian Digeridoo - which have more in common with the guitar than one might think! Performances are combined with presentations about the historical and cultural influences that shaped each musical style. Connections are also made between musical cultures in different countries, widening student perspective on music around the globe.
In addition to performing acoustically, Stuart demonstrates how the electric guitar has broadened the sound palette for the modern guitarist. Students also get a science lesson in acoustics as they make a "wah-wah" pedal out of their own two hands!
