Merry Radtke

Merry RadtkeAs a metal artist and educator, Merry Radtke believes that trusting in the power of the creative spirit leads to innovative results. Getting creative juices flowing and in action is her specialty and a motivating force for her students. Her workshops use metal as a "canvas" and tap into using concept in conjunction with imagery and text. Her workshops can be adapted to fit any theme or project for a specific connection.

Metal Connections: Journals

Think beyond the definition of a traditional book and discover the "what-ifs" within the covers of a metal journal. Using found objects and various metal techniques that will texture and connect pieces together, students will create unique metal covers that will serve as a useable journal. Imagery and drawings will be transferred to the metal covers using collage and a special transfer method. The simple binding will allow pages to be added easily or renewed when the pages are filled. Requires 2 workshops to complete. Materials fee $5.50 per student.

Metal Connections: PhotoShop

Using Photoshop, students create an abstract painting inspired by a specific theme, poem, or story. The painting is printed as a miniature and then using a special transfer method, mounted on brass or copper metal. Descriptive words or a quote is added to reinforce content and add interest. The end result is a wearable piece of jewelry and/or a metal- framed piece of art. Requires 2 workshops to complete. Materials fee $2.00 per student.

Metal Connections: Keepsakes

The possibilities are endless when developing a concept with found objects and bottle caps. Students will use simple metal techniques and incorporate imagery, words, and found objects into a series of bottle caps using a resin technique. The end result will be a wearable piece of art or a keepsake that can be used to enhance books or hang from belts and clothing. Materials fee $2.00 per student.
