Cornelia Dohse-Peck

Cornelia Dohse-PeckSilhouettes

Cornelia Dohse-Peck is devoted to public forms of art. She has decorated Buffalo's West Side, where she lives, with murals and her Silhouette Project. With each project she cultivates communication and interest in the arts within the neighborhood she is working. Cornelia earned her B.F.A. from the University at Buffalo in painting and art history. She integrates digital photography, printmaking, collage, as well as painting and cultural icons in her smaller scale works. She has been an instructor for the Albright Knox, ArtREACH, CEPA Gallery and has received a number of grants for her community projects.
Cornelia Dohse-Peck integrates the multi-cultural nature of each group of students and their region. Murals or cut out silhouettes are the forum for an investigation of the patterns, colors and design of each child's heritage. Contemporary culture comes into play as the silhouettes are planned and poses are selected. The decorated likenesses can temporarily or permanently grace walls or outdoor areas. Takes several workshops to complete.

Adam English

Adam EnglishThe Caricature Guy

Adam English has trained professional caricature artists at Darien Lake for many years - and now his audience members can learn to draw cartoon caricatures just like he does! Adam introduces his audience to the In-Betweener, a hypothetical person who is exactly average in every way. In this dynamic presentation, students learn how to exaggerate the differences between their subject and this imaginary "normal" person, creating a cartoon portrait which celebrates each person's uniqueness. Students will caricature celebrities, classmates, themselves, and even their teachers in this high-energy, laughter-filled workshop. Also, each student will leave with a caricature of him or herself by Adam.

On the Count of Three, Draw!

Ever notice how the first answer you think of is often the right one? Our tendency to second-guess ourselves, to distrust our ideas and abilities, places limits on our creativity. When Adam English goes to work, he draws 40 caricatures an hour! When you have to complete a cartoon portrait every 90 seconds, you don't have time to worry about so-called "mistakes!" Adam uses time constraints such as a stopwatch and an hourglass to help participants overcome their artistic inhibitions. The creative process is jump-started in this mind-expanding mile-a-minute workshop!

While presenting the artifacts, the artist will also describe the importance and function of museums.
