Kites as an Educational Tool: Teacher Workshop
Kites are an enlightened way to assist teachers in their quest to engage, excite and educate their pupils. This workshop was developed to share material with educators and demonstrate how kites integrate into a variety of academic lessons. Workshop contents correlate to NYS Learning Standards. Either with the geometry of Alexander Graham Bell's tetrahedrons, discussions of Marco Polo's records of man-lifting kites in China in his travel diary or the true story of a ten year old boy and his kite who were responsible for the first suspension bridge spanning the Niagara Gorge, kites hold a universal fascination. There is potential here to develop characteristics of inquiry, experimentation and perseverance that can lead to sustained self-motivation necessary for a full and satisfying life.
