Fiddlesticks

The fiddling Monaco Family brings old time fiddle music to life in this fascinating program. Different fiddle styles, limberjacks, washboards, spoons, and bowing techniques are all demonstrated as fiddle tunes from Sweden, Germany, Spain, and America are presented to the students. Fiddlesticks encourages audience participation through singing and inviting students on stage to try out the rhythm sticks during the show. If your school has a string program, arrangements can be made in advance for string students to play with the Fiddlesticks on stage. Programs can be tailored to your individual classroom needs.

The History & Development of Brass Instruments

The Galliard Brass Quintet presents a program tracing the origins and development of brass instruments. Included in this presentation is an assortment of odd and unusual musical instruments that must be seen to be believed!

Uses of Music

The Quintet demonstrates how music enhances everyday life. The artists draw examples from medieval times to modern jazz and blues, highlighting the versatility of each instrument.

The Hill Brothers are a two-piece group who began performing for Young Audiences of Western NY in 1977. Thirty years and thousands of concerts later, the group is still with YA-WNY and is well known throughout New York State and beyond for its high-quality arts-in-education programs.

The Healthy and Drug-Free Schools Show

The Hill Brothers have turned their creative talents to the all-important issues of nutrition and wellness for this action-packed assembly program. Infectiously catchy new songs and plenty of fun activities inspire students to take great care of themselves with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. A drug-free message is included too, along with lots of friendly motivation to help kids combat today's "largest" problem -- obesity.

The Bullying Show: There's No Place for Bullies In Our School

The Hill Brothers have synthesized the latest research and hours of discussions with school counselors into an uplifting musical celebration packed with singing, humor and a message about bullying in school. Students will be empowered to take a stand against bullying in all of its forms as they chant "There's No Place For Bullies In Our School!" Special attention is given to techniques for responding to bullying situations, both as a victim AND as a bystander.

Grades: K-6

Americana: Folk Music, Bluegrass & Appalachian Mountain Music

Songs, folklore and humor from the Appalachian Mountains take students back in time to experience a rich portion of their heritage as Americans. This show features traditional and "homemade" instruments including spoons, washboard, string bass, mandolin, dulcimer, acoustic guitar and the ever-popular washtub bass and invites lots of laughter, clapping and singing along to great old American folk songs.

The American Gumbo: Multi-Culturalism in America

This lively concert highlights and celebrates the multi-cultural stew that is America. The Hill Brothers combine fun songs from Russia, Africa, Ireland, Mexico and more (many of which students will know) with loads of audience participation to celebrate the diversity of cultures in our country and in our own communities.

Grades: K-8

Character Education Show

A fun-filled entertaining concert which promotes the principles of respect and responsibility and emphasizes the message that Good Character is Cool! The Hill Brothers use original songs, interactive dialogue, full tilt humor and tons of audience activities to rally your school around the concept of Good Character and highlight the many positive things that can happen for students through very simple actions on their parts.

Grades: K-6

Across New York State

This program focuses on music and folklore from New York State's history with a special emphasis on the Erie Canal. The Hill Brothers use humor, great songs from the period and lots of audience participation in this fun-filled musical trip across the State.

Reading Show

Get your school really excited about reading with this high-energy assembly program! This show uses singable, original rock & roll songs and even a disco tune to get students really fired up to read! The messages in this program are very clear: reading is fun, it's something we can all learn to do, it enables us to follow our dreams and become anything we want to be, and it can take us on some fascinating new adventures.

Grades: K- 6

Early Childhood Show: Sing, Giggle, Wiggle & Smile!

For the youngest audiences, this is a special 30-minute program of singing & clapping, funny skits and interactive stories. This show allows students to interact with a musical performance while learning some important skills about being a good audience member.

Grades: Pre K-2

Winter Holiday Sing Along

Fill your school with song and celebration this holiday season. The Hill Brothers bring their favorite stringed instruments, their humor, and of course their love for group sing along for this one - a song and story celebration of the many holidays taking place during this magical time of year.
